Happy New Year

2020 – The Year of Seeing

It is the year that went down in history at its dawning. Coronavirus. Ahmaud Arbery, Breyonna Taylor, George Floyd, and the many un-named and un-captured-by-video-recipients-of-brutality, the presidential election, long, long, long food lines… The list could go on and on.  2020 had most of us feeling every emotion possible, sometimes in the same day – or the same hour!

We also spent several months laughing, sharing, walking, praying, telling one another how glad we were to have each other to walk through the days with. We saw God reveal Truth to us in new ways. Our relationship with God deepened. Our faith stood firm – even if our knees got a little weak along the way.

Yes, 2020 had us feeling ALL the feelings.  BUT, Aayyee! (as my Ghanian sisters would say) – we are still standing!

2021 – The Year of Believing

And so here we are on the precipice of a new year.  I stand believing that the revealing God began in 2020 will continue to an even greater degree this year bringing with it opportunities to grow in and go deeper with God.  The lessons of 2020 can propel us forward into tending to our hearts so that we are becoming as emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically healthy as we can be.

2020 taught us that the world needs people who are ready to live and love well.  Folks are hurting, depressed, and barely holding on. People need people who are healthy and whole enough to just speak a hopeful word. This is true in every moment in every day in every year.  And so whether we lived and loved well yesteryear, or not, the beauty of a new day and a new year is that we get another chance to try again.  And, we get to do it, as a child of God, committed to becoming wise(r), journeying together in hope and faith, towards being a woman who tends to her heart so she can help others tend to theirs.
